choosing your sponsored child

IMG_8413.jpg

The Child Sponsorship Coordinator at Mitrata will choose your sponsored child. They are in a much better position to choose a child for you based on the socio-economic situation of the child's family.

Priorities are in place when choosing students for sponsorships. Mitrata will carry out financial background checks on each applicant and the most needy families are placed at the top of the list.

You can however choose the age bracket of the child (i.e. 2 - 5, 6 - 9 or 10 - 12).

We will try to select the child using your choice of age bracket.

It goes without saying that every child enrolled at Mitrata:

  • lives in disadvantaged circumstances and the parents are unable to pay for the cost of school fees, uniforms, books or stationery,

  • lives in a remote area and would otherwise have no access to education or health care,

  • has a caring mother or guardian who values education and who will encourage the child while she is at school,

  • is willing to attend school regularly and is determined to try her best, both at home and at school, to achieve good results

In certain circumstances, the child will be considered for a scholarship if:

  • the parent(s) or guardian(s) are disabled and cannot care for the child

  • the child has been abandoned by the parent(s)

  • the parent(s) or guardian(s) have abused the child and they are seen as unfit by their community elders to look after the child
